It’s not uncommon that disagreements may arise between you and your ex-spouse when it comes to co-parenting through the holidays. You may be starting to feel the stress and anxiety that the holiday season brings and divorce can add an extra layer for many families especially when balancing children.
As parents who are divorced, co-parenting presents it’s own challenges but that doesn’t have to get in the way of the fun. Halloween is just around the corner so we want bring a little clarity and tips to help avoid some of the “ghoulish” obstacles.
Safety First
Some parents have concerns about the risk of trick-or-treating in the midst of the pandemic. For example, a parent who does not have possession wants the child to be able to trick-or-treat but the parent who is in possession on Halloween does not because of COVID-19 safety concerns.
The parent in possession is the parent who is going to make that decision.
With COVID-19 things may look a little different this year for Halloween. If you are going to trick-or-treat be sure to follow CDC recommended guidelines and any County Orders that are currently in place. Wear a mask for any public outings and maintain social distancing.
The CDC has put together a list of Halloween activities ranking them from low to high risk.
Communicate with Your Ex-Spouse
Communication with your ex-spouse is important especially when it comes to your children. Balancing co-parenting during the holidays in the midst of a pandemic may bring additional stressors and obstacles. Focusing on your children, keeping their happiness in mind and putting their needs first is key to successful co-parenting.
Plan For The Fun
There are a lot of activities happening throughout the community and each parent may have a different goal in mind when it comes to Halloween festivities. The possession schedule you have in place still applies, even for holidays like Halloween. Look for activities that line up with your possession dates. If you don’t have possession on Halloween create a new tradition on a different day.
